The Relationship between Mechanical Properties and Structure/Composition of Locust Cuticle
Chuchu Li, Hamed Rajabi, Stanislav N. Gorb
The aim of the study is to discover the mechanical properties of the cuticle in different body parts of the locust Locusta migratoria. For this purpose, nanoindentation technique is used to probe the cuticle at various experimental conditions (fresh, dry). To obtain information about the structure and composition of the cuticle, scanning electron microscopy and confocal laser scanning microscopy are used.
